1. Start with a Trial Instructional Flight
- An initial on the ground briefing introduces the basics of flying
- From startup on the tarmac, you take control of a Flight Design CTSW with a qualified instructor at your side
- Pull back on the control column and lift off the runway
- Learn how it feels to turn and bank the aircraft
2. Obtain your Student Pilot Certificate
- The Student Pilot Certificate is the step on your way to becoming an RA approved Pilot. To be issued with a Student Pilot Certificate you will need to satisfy the minimum requirements below:
i. Sign a declaration that your health is of a standard equivalent to that required for the issue of a motor vehicle licence
ii. Any persons under the age of 18 requires written consent from their legal guardian
iii. You must be competent in speaking, writing and understanding instructions in the English language
iv. Be deemed competent at basic handling of controls
v. Demonstrate a level of maturity required for flight training
vi. Understand the full requirements of training, including theory
3. Gain your Pilot Certificate
- The Alice Springs Aero Club sells training manuals, log books, aircraft manuals and more, to assist in your training studies.
- Your instructor will guide you through all aspects of gaining your Pilot Certificate, following our structured training syllabus which is outlined in your Student Pilot Manual.
- You’ll be flying a Flight Design CTSW two seater aircraft. This aircraft is easy to fly and will teach you sound flying habits & skills that are easily transferred to other aircraft.
- The Pilot Certificate is the next step in becoming an RA approved pilot, and is issued after you have trained for and reached a specified competency. To be issued with a pilot certificate, you will need to satisfy the minimum requirements below:
i. Hold a valid Student Pilot Certificate
ii. Sign the health declaration as mentioned previously
iii. Have undergone specific training (as stated in the RA Ops Manual)
iv. Have completed a minimum of 20 hours flight training, of which 5 hours must be solo
v. Have succesfully passed a theory and in-flight examinations, thus demonstrating to the CFI that you have reached the competency level required for the issue of an RA Aus Pilot Certificate.
4. Progress to Cross Country Endorsement / Passenger Carriage
- After gaining your Pilot Certificate you may have developed a desire to travel further or introduce passengers to the thrills of flying. To undertake either of these activities you will need to complete either the passenger carriage and/or cross country endorsement.
- Upon completion of these endorsements you will be able to fly recreational aircraft with passengers anywhere in Australia.
- The navigation training for this course is conducted in a Flight Design CTSW.
- The requirements for both of these endorsements, plus additional specific endorsements can be found in the RA Aus Operations Manual.
