Learning to Fly - Further Detail
Obtaining a private pilot license starts with basic flying training. This is the stage were you learn the basics of flight:
  1.     aircraft handling characteristics and operation of controls;
  2.     in-flight procedures and safety-checks.
In your first lesson, you take the controls.
 
After building familiarity with the aircraft, the student focuses on other areas;
  1.    understanding weather and how it affects aviation;
  2.    flight planning and navigation exercises;
  3.    calculating weight and balance for your aircraft;
  4.    landing safely in a variety of conditions;
  5.    simulated emergencies;
  6.    cockpit management;
  7.    understanding and respect of aviation legislation.
