Learning to Fly
Stage 1: The General Flying Progress Test (GFPT)
The GFPT grants the student pilot certain privileges. You will be licensed to fly as the pilot in command, both solo and with passengers in the local training and circuit areas, and within 10 nautical miles of the airfield. This stage takes approximately 20 hours of flight training.
Navigation exercise to Gosses Bluff meteorite crater.
Stage 2: Private Pilot License (PPL)
On completion of your PPL, you will be authorised to fly solo and with passengers anywhere in Australia. This stage takes a further 20 to 30 hours.

Learning to fly occurs in several stages, from the first time you take the controls, to your first solo flight, to planning a trip with friends.

A private pilot licence shows you have determination, courage and a willingness to accept responsibility. At 8500 feet above ground, YOU are in control.

Flying training is composed of two major stages.
